Dual Boot Windows 9x with NT or Linux

Installing windows is pretty easy if you know what you are doing, but it can be a complete mess if you are still learning. Dual booting can have advantages if you have a game that support one platform or you want to learn to use a different operating system.

You can install windows NT(Windows 2000 and Windows XP) as part of a dual boat or multi-boot combination, with windows 9x. It is also possible to run any Microsoft Operating system with Linux.

The Requirements for setting up dual-boot system are relatively minimal compared to a single boat. The biggest disadvantage of dual boot is Disk space, and depending on whether you will be dual booting windows 9x with windows NT or Microsoft operating system with Linux, you my have to install a second hard drive or partition the one you are currently using. There are software’s available that you can use if you want to partition your hard drive. The good one is partition magic; it allows you to create a second partition without losing your data. It is possible to install windows 9x and Windows NT on one partition but in different folders, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who is still learning dual booting.

Choosing the right file system for your Windows NT can be advantages to users of windows 9x as this will allow them access to windows NT partition. Windows NT support both Fat32 and NTFS while windows 9x only support Fat32. Which means 9x can’t read NTFS partitions, so it is recommended to choose the correct file system carefully, and put under consideration the file system you want to use.

When you are ready to install your operating system, it is very important to start with windows 9x then Windows NT. Your primary partition must be formatted with Fat32. If you’re dual boot is a combination of Microsoft OS and Linux, then I will recommend you start with Microsoft OS, but make sure you have a second partition as Linux is going to create its own file systems and partitions.

Prior to your installation make sure you do backup of your Data for incase something goes wrong. Start windows 98 installation from windows boot CD then follow the instruction on the screen, once installation is complete, insert windows NT or Linux CD and follow instruction on the screen, don’t forget to select a different partition, this partition will be D: or F: depending on how many drives you have.

You will have to install your software applications on both sides. It is pretty easy to dual boot your operating systems, although I personally don’t recommend it, as now days we have virtual pc’s that can be used, and you don’t have to reboot your pc in order to access the other operating system. The good virtual machine is Microsoft Virtual PC.

Which pro Sports Players Would Be Best at Poker?

Here’s another installment in the What If? poker series. This time, we imagine pro athletes from various sports around the world as poker players, and how they might play and fare in poker tournaments.

First up are football players. There’s little doubt about these guys. While many football players are actually quite smart (there’s an entry exam, look it up!), I doubt they’d be able to shed their aggressive on-field tendencies when it came time to sidle up to the poker table. I can see these big brutes using their chip stacks as aggressively as possible; scaring away unsure bets, taking pots on big raises, and going all-in when it might not be the most opportune time.

Soccer players would play poker as they do the Beautiful Gamewith grace and methodical calculations that could see their chip stacks growing steadily throughout the game. Like a typical soccer match, they might even appear to be outplayed for a majority of the contest, only to surge at the end with the win.

Lastly, baseball players. Aside from all the hand signals and chew, I imagine baseball players might be the best. Baseball requires a bit of strategy and thinking on your feet, and rash decisions are not often rewarded on the diamond.

Organic Skincare Products, where Knowledge Is Power

Shopping for organic and natural skincare products should not, in theory, be any more complicated than shopping for anything else. In reality though the wide range of products - each one with different purposes and benefits - can make it confusing to know which item suits your needs the best. Here, I will briefly run through the pieces of information that should be found on most natural and organic skincare products, and outline what these symbols and pieces of information say about their product. Since 2005 EU guidelines have changed so that skincare and cosmetic products no longer need to have a conventional ‘best-before’ date. Instead, a little symbol that resembles a small pot with its lid open is now to be found. Upon this little pot is printed a number, which tells the consumer how long that product will last from the day that it is opened. Whilst this is a very useful idea, it does rely on the purchaser of the product remembering when they actually opened it. A best before date is far more cut-and-dry in my opinion. The life expectancy symbol can give you a hint as to whether or not an organic or natural skincare product has had any nasty chemical preservatives slipped in - a quick glance at my (non-organic) shampoo reveals a rather worrying 24 month life expectancy, which suggests the presence of some not overly natural compounds, synthetics or preservatives. When it comes to natural products that use Essential Oils, it is important to note that the life expectancy symbol might be slightly misleading.

When purchasing natural or organic skincare products you are not just doing your body a favour, but, in many cases, also doing the environment favour too. Organic compounds don't reek the same havoc into the water system that their chemical cousins can. If you are concerned about the environment, look out for the little circle comprised of the white and black arrow on a products label. This yin-yang like logo shows that the company contributes to recycling and proper disposal programs for all of that products packaging. The list of the product's ingredients is an important resource for those people that are allergic to certain things.

Our Feelings and Attitudes Around ‘Happily Ever After’

Our feelings and attitudes have a huge impact on our ability to achieve ‘happily ever after.’ Are feelings and attitudes the same thing or different? Does one cause the other to happen? Which one has more power over how we respond? Does the person experiencing them have any choice in the matter? What if they are in conflict?

Feelings are what they are. We can’t force them. You fall madly head over heels in love with someone or you don’t. ‘You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink’ comes to mind as I try to explain feelings. There is no magical way to change how we feel. Our feelings aren’t right or wrong, they just exist. Feelings are very powerful and definitely have a control over how we make choices and how we move through life. Think about the money, time, and focus we put into trying to feel good and avoiding feeling bad. It goes against human nature to want to feel bad.

Feelings are based in emotions. Emotions come from the heart. Therefore, I don’t think we can change them from within our logical minds. If your girlfriend leaves you, then you feel hurt. You cannot be expected to simply stop feeling hurt. You will feel some level of sadness until you have finished feeling sad. It is possible to distract yourself for awhile, but the feelings will just lay dormant until you allow them time to fully run their course. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to distract yourself from the bad feelings of missing your girlfriend, but it will slow down the process. There are constructive things you can do to aid the processing of your feelings. Regardless of how you handle your feelings, you’re going to feel what you feel until it works it’s way through your heart. You might always miss her and feel a slight tug at your heart when you think back, but the overwhelming sadness will eventually pass. It always does. That’s why they say ‘time heals all wounds.’ You can’t maintain any one feeling indefinitely. Emotions by nature are shifting and uncontrollable. They simply are what they are.

What about our attitudes? An entire multi-million dollar industry has been built around the power of a positive attitude. The industry wouldn’t have survived and thrived as it has if it wasn’t a valid and real concept. Our attitudes are rooted in our belief systems. Our belief systems are chosen by our logical minds. Therefore, it is possible to make a conscious decision to change it. Our minds have complete and total control over what we believe. I don’t think I need to bore you with another longwinded speech about the powers of a positive attitude. If you’ve ever tried it, then you have proven for yourself that it is possible to make an internal adjustment regarding your attitude.

So, which is stronger? Which has more influence over our choices and behaviors? Does one overpower the other? Let’s say that you find yourself falling madly head over heals in love with someone. That’s a feeling, an emotion. It comes from your heart. However, at the same time, you are entertaining a very pessimistic attitude towards love and relationships in general. The attitude comes from your mind. Which will win out, the feelings of falling in love or the dark attitude? It’s hard to say. If you change your attitude, then the feelings of being in love can grow and perhaps become a wonderful source of joy for you. If you hold on tightly to your attitude, then eventually it will wear on the loving feelings and you will eventually stop loving that other person. What if the feelings of love were so amazingly powerful, that they caused the attitude to change and your core belief system about love and relationships changed too? Your feelings can definitely have an effect on your attitude, but more often than not, your attitude wins.

Your attitude is not more powerful because it’s more important than your feelings. It’s more powerful because it’s more stubborn than your feelings. Let’s look again at our example where the feelings are positive and the attitude is negative. We’ve seen people fall madly in love with someone who loved them in return. These same people had bad attitudes about love and relationships in general. Their feelings were not able to overpower their attitude. They believe ‘it’s never going to work out anyway’ and create a self-fulfilling prophecy. By not believing in love, they destroy their good relationship and then feel hurt by the failed relationship. Their minds take that as evidence to further continue with the negative attitude regarding love. The reason the attitude wins the battle more often then our feelings is because feelings are ever-changing and flexible while attitudes are often locked into place and become an unmovable force.

What if the feelings were bad and the attitude was good? If you felt afraid that you might be rejected by the opposite sex, but you had a positive attitude towards love in general because you’d had ‘happily ever after’ role modeled to you as a child, then you could choose to keep moving forward despite your feelings of fear. Your attitude would win out over your feelings once again.

If your feelings and attitudes match, then you have an inner balance and harmony within yourself. Isn’t this the age-old battle between heart and head? Attitude comes from your head and feelings come from your heart. When the two agree you are able to focus and move forward with confidence. When the two are at war you have to decide which is right… the heart’s feelings or the head’s attitude? Perhaps in sitting quietly and looking inward at our feelings and attitudes from a detached perspective, we can evaluate and chose for ourselves on a case-by-case basis which one should lead us.
